Winning Hearts and Minds is a joined up approach to improve people’s long-term heart and mental health – so they can live longer and healthier lives.

To start with we are focusing our work in north Manchester, because people in north Manchester are more likely to suffer from heart disease and dementia than the rest of the country.

That’s why the city’s organisations responsible for health, wellbeing, sport and activity have devised the Winning Hearts and Minds programme  – a joined up approach to improve heart and mental health outcomes in Manchester.

One of the aims of Winning Hearts and Minds is to tackle physical inactivity, as we know that physical activity helps to prevent heart disease and dementia and is also important for promoting mental wellbeing.

For Winning Hearts and Minds to be successful we need the communities of Manchester to take ownership of the programme and to make decisions about what local services and initiatives  will bring lasting change that is meaningful to them – as it is their life choices that will ultimately lead to improved health outcomes.

Given our initial focus on north of the city , if you’re a local business, voluntary sector organisation and resident of north Manchester then we’d love to hear from you.

From Friday 1 July 2022, Manchester Health and Care Commissioning - the partnership organisation that delivered the Healthier Manchester Locality Plan became Greater Manchester Integrated Care. Because of this, the decision was made to no longer update this website or the plan itself. For more information on NHS Greater Manchester visit www.gmintegratedcare.org.uk

We’re leading a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create the healthier Manchester that people want.
